Welcome
What is Telemedicine? Telemedicine provides physicians and patients in underserved or outlying hospitals and clinics the ability to have live, interactive video consultations with specialists at distant locations by simply dialing them up via high-speed internet.
This access to specialists can assist rural/underserved primary care doctors not only in the diagnosis of difficult patient cases, but also in the creation of treatment plans.
This is especially helpful in the treatment of complex conditions or diseases such as HIV/AIDS, where treatment strategies are rapidly changing.
Most telemedicine applications involve outpatient specialty care such as dermatology and endocrinology, but access to over 30 different specialties now exist, including: cardiology, pediatric and adult critical care consultation, remote intensive care monitoring, child abuse evaluation and examination, nutrition and psychiatry.
